What’s Happening in Milford, Connecticut, October 2019

Temperatures are dipping from the summer heat, and the days are getting shorter.  It’s all happening just in time for several exciting October events in Milford, several of them that have become traditional fall fixtures in the community.  Of course, for many families, October is synonymous with Halloween, and appropriately themed events bookend the October calendar.  Many of these event support local groups that help support those in need, and are sponsored by the local businesses and organizations you visit regularly.

October 4 & 5

Walnut Beach

What’s October without pumpkins?  This great fall tradition continues in 2019 with Pumpkins Eve on Friday (6:00-10:00pm), featuring food trucks, beer from The New England Brewing Company, music entertainment by the Rum Runners, and of course, the pumpkin patch.  Admission to Pumpkins Even is $5.

From 10:00am-5:00pm, Pumpkin on the Pier offers a day of Halloween-themed family fun.  For those who have been in past years, your favorite activities will be back, including face painting, pumpkin-related activities, arts and crafts vendors, food trucks, and amazing displays on the pier.  The pumpkin patch will be open, and new for this year, you can look forward to a corn maze and an obstacle course for some additional entertainment.  Admission to Saturday’s activities is free.

The Milford Bank’s Shred and Recycle Day

A regular event for The Milford Bank in its ongoing effort to help promote environmental responsibility – and give residents a chance to get rid of the old electronics and paper that’s taking up space and collecting dust at home.  The event collected nearly four tons of paper and half a truckload of old electronics in the spring.

The electronics recycling is free for everyone, and document shredding is free for The Milford Bank customers (non-customers may also participate with a $5 per box donation.  All proceeds benefit local non-profit organizations.  There is a limit of three boxes of paper per business or household (maximum size 18” x 18” x 16”, weight limit is whatever you are able to lift).  There is limit on electronics and space for both is on a first come, first served basis from 10:00am – 12:00pm, or until the truck is filled.

October 19

Milford Library, 57 new Haven Avenue

From 7:00-10:00pm, this event for adults will feature a Pop Culture theme, celebrating superheroes, comic books, movies, TV shows, and more.  The game portion of this year’s event will be related to movies and TV spanning several decades, with other interactive activities throughout the library, including giant party games from Party People, Inc., as well as a sorting hat event for aspiring witches and wizards – or anyone who just wants to have a little fantasy fun.

Tickets for the event are $50 with proceeds going to support the Milford Public Library.  They may be purchased at the library’s circulation desk, through the library’s website, or via Bidding Owl.

Halloweekend, presented by the Downtown Milford Business Association

October 26

Milford Green, Downtown Milford

From 11:00am to 2:00pm, downtown Milford will turn into a Halloween extravaganza for the entire family.  Many Halloween-themed activities will provide plenty of activity, including No-so-Scary Story Time, Trick or Treat trail around downtown, and a costume contest.  Traditionally, many restaurant- and storefronts and windows have been decorated, and vendors will be around downtown making their goods available during the event.
